Why visit

Marrakech’s medina is a full-sensory experience designed to overload and delight, but just an hour away, the High Atlas reveals a slower, older way of life in Berber villages, with cool air and quieter rhythms. It's the rare combo of iconic city buzz and ancient mountain tranquility that few travellers fully explore.

Getting around

Within Marrakech, walking is best for the Medina; grand taxis for longer distances or between the Medina and Gueliz. For the Atlas Mountains, shared grand taxis or private drivers (around €40–60 one way to Imlil) are available, taking 1.5–2 hours.

What to eat

Cultural notes

In the medina, embrace the organised chaos of the souks and the spontaneous hospitality of shopkeepers, especially when offered mint tea; haggling is expected and part of the experience. In the Atlas Mountains, the pace is slower and life is deeply connected to family and the land – a shared meal is the highest honour.
